A Happy Weekend Celebration

Oh, how happy I hope to be this weekend. It’s been a great, busy week at work, and on Friday evening (yes tonight), I’m leaving to go camping with my church’s singles’ group, which includes a day of rafting. I’m looking forward to it, but it also means I’ll be away from the internet for the weekend.  (Ahhhg! How will I survive?!?)

There is a lot I’m celebrating about this past week for VikLit’s weekly blog hop, Celebrate the Small Things.

First, on Saturday, my birthday, my family actually pulled off a surprise party. Do you know how hard it is to surprise someone on their birthday? They played there parts very well, and got me good. And Alison, my old friend from elementary school I’d recently met up with again, was there. It was truly a fun time.

Second, on my birthday, I published my second book, Salted With Fire, and it’s now up and ready on Amazon, Smashwords, and CreateSpace. The print book is more expensive than I’d like because of the color pictures, but the eBook is going for only .99 cents. I will hopefully be setting up a blog tour, and will be sending many of you an email sometime next week inviting you to host a day. In the meantime, share as you see fit. :) Here’s my blurb for the book:

Black magic, murder, insanity, humor, honor and devotion. Salted With Fire is a journey of flash fiction and poetry that shows my writing transformation from worldly to wanting to please God.

Flash fiction is my passion; poetry is my release. I love creating a complete story, with a beginning, middle and end, with twists, humor, drama, compassion and horror, all under 1000 words. Salted With Fire isn’t just a book of stories and poetry, it is my journey as a writer, from writing only for the mere joy of it regardless of the message, to writing stories that highlight God’s will for people, even if the stories themselves are not religious in nature.

Inside are fifteen flash fiction pieces and twelve poems with full-color pictures, and short Biblical discussions after each story.

Third, as I said initially, I’m going camping! Although I was raised in a family that went camping every summer, I’m not the biggest camping fan, but I do enjoy going camping with my singles’ group. This’ll be the third year we’re going, but we’ve never gone rafting. This will also be the first year that I’m not part of the leadership team, so I get to enjoy like every other camper.

Pray for our trip this weekend, that it’ll be fun, lots of fellowshipping, and great time with God. And I’ll be able to visit some of y'all's celebrations today, but the rest as soon as I get some free time when I get back home.

  7. Yay for getting your book done. I think createspace is pretty awesome. I published both my books through there, plus an anthology for my writing group. And have fun camping. It's great to be so close to nature, away from everything.

I've never been much of a camper. I live in the wilderness now, but have only be actually camping once in my life. Sad, but true...

  13. Surprise parties are so wonderful :) Glad you had a great birthday. Congrats on the book! I'll check it out. Enjoy your camping trip. I'm so envious of all the summer camping trips. I'm in south Florida so it's too hot for camping this time of year :( And we are so far south it's too long a drive to get anywhere. One day we will move to a better climate! Got to have dreams right? Have a great weekend!

  15. Happy Birthday and Congrats on your book release!!! I love the blurb, and how it's a collection of your walk with God in your writing!!! Woohoo!!! I'm excited to read it!

And yes, I would love to help with a blog tour! However, my July is kind of crazy, so I would love to host you either in the few weeks available then, or in August - maybe spreading the word out over time will be a good thing. Is that ok? (Plus I'll add a little shout out in my next post)
