Allow me to re-introduce myself

Hi folks! I'm so glad to be a part of this blog hop that's started by several people. Just click on the picture and you can learn all about it.

I'm Nancy LaRonda Johnson, a passionate writer of Christian and other fiction and some poetry. I love writing flash fiction. Poetry comes when it comes. Only twice was I able to sit and intentionally write any half-way decent poetry.

But anyway, I'm a strong believer in Christ, love hanging with my crazy family (and my mom's doing better and better everyday, though she's still in the hospital). I'm also very involved with my church and love having lots and lots of down time, which is contrary to my busy schedule.

My favorite word in the English vocabulary is "vacation". My favorite sports: tennis and yoga, though I can't do yoga anymore because of early onset of arthritis in the knee and those darned yoga knee bends just kill it. But tennis is still a go. Authors who have written my favorite books are: Stephen King (of course), Gloria Naylor, Octavia Butler, Toni Morrison, John Grisham and Michael Crichton. Okay there are many others, but this is the short list.

Other things I love: listening to audio books, networking on the web, and did I say vacations?

Sorry for the late start, but I'm looking forward to being intro'd and re-introduced to many of you folks.

  1. Hi Nancy! I believe your favorite word is mine too! Though vacation at our house is usually a little crazy with the kids, lol. Sorry to hear about the arthritis, though. I can see how yoga would make it worse. Do you think you would like Tai-chi?

    1. Hi Elise. No to Tai-chi. I've tried it and it's a little fun, but too slow for me! I love tennis, and today was my first time playing in about 3-4 months. My first exercise in that long. :)

  2. Nancy, it's great to meet you :)

I'm a big tennis fan...I played in high school (many years ago) and, still, try to play some today.

Oh, and p.s....I love vacations too!

  4. Vacation is a great word. I might have you beat with the words, soon to be retired.

    1. I think you've got me! Retirement is my favorite dream word. It even out beats winning the lottery!

  5. Oh, I LOVE Octavia Butler. Tennis is fun, too, though I haven't played for a few years. And chillin' is the best. It's all about balance, right?

    1. Balance...? Who needs balance? Can't we just sleep all day if we wanted, eat ice cream for each meal, travel instead of commute, watch TV instead of sleep and work only during commercials?

      Guess I'm still dreaming. :)

    1. Unfortunately, my body and mind won't let me go too long without down time or vacations. Or is it fortunately? :)

  7. Vacation sounds wonderful to me! I pray your mother continues to feel better. I use to think Flash Fiction was hard... but I'm starting to get the hang of it. Nice to learn more about you!

    1. For me, writing a long fiction piece is hard. It may as well be a book!

    I love Grisham's books too!
Down time is good to revive the flagging spirits... nothing better than a little R&R...

  11. I love audio books too, especially if they're read by the author and she knows what she's doing. You know, I haven't listened to one since I stopped owning a car! Commuting created the audio book.

    1. That's pretty much the only time I listen to them too. I drive so much, I can go through a book in two or three days.

  14. Very sorry to hear that your arthritis has stopped your yoga! I would have thought tennis would be worse in a way - more jarring. I've done a bit of yoga and would love to do more, but it's more expensive than body balance so I do the latter. ;)

    1. No, it's the bends in Yoga that put more strain on my knee and it gets so bad sometimes I can barely walk on it. I get a little swelling with tennis sometimes, but not much and it goes away quickly.

  16. Hi, Nancy,

Nice to meet you. I love flash fiction as well. It's amazing how a complete story CAN be told in three or four hundred words.

    VACATION is a GREAT word.....

    1. Yes, three hundred words can be difficult. I like between 400 and 1000 words. 500 is my usual. Thanks for coming by!

I agree "vacation" is an uber delightful word. I just wish I got to use it more often in conjunction with my job. ;)

  19. Hi Nancy, nice to meet you. I like the word vacation too but we don't use it here. I also like Stephen King and Michael Crichton-good choices.

  20. I agree with you on all but Glorida Naylor, and that's just because I haven't read her. Will have to look her up. Given, Crichton is so good, but I have to be in the mood for one of his books or it will drag for me.

    Nice to meet you!
