Aberration and Heroes & Villains Blog Hops

In celebration of the release of her second novel, Aberration, Lisa Regan is hosting The Aberration Blog Hop:  Finding the Most Aberrant Characters.

In Aberration, FBI profiler, Kassidy Bishop is on the hunt for serial killer who is an aberration—a freak—even among serial killers.  For this blog hop, list your top 5 choices for the most aberrant (freakish or abnormal) characters in fiction, TV and movies!

#1 The Skin I Live In. I loved this movie starring Antonio Banderas, who seems best in his native language, with it’s twisted plot and thrilling ending. You'd never think he was capable of such deviancy!

#2 Citizen X. Okay, of the serial killers, Andrei Chikatilo was definitely an aberrant, and true! Seemingly so mild mannered, he was quite insane and his crimes unimaginably horrible.

#3 Can’t leave out Hannibal Lecter of Silence of the Lambs, a most diabolical, aberrant killer.

#4 And another real-life killer, the one Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs was based on, is Ed Gein. The worst thing is that although he was odd, he was pretty much well liked by people in his town, even kids. But his house told his whole story, as you can see in this clip.

#5 Then there’s Thomas of Anticipation of the Penitent. Raised by Satan, it’s no surprise that he kills little girls. That he enjoys it, is all on him. (I couldn't be so cheeky as to put mine first!)

Now for the Heroes & Villains blog hop, where you post your favorites of each, hosted by Jackie and Dani:

I do like characters that are both likeable and not so much. So I'm combining the heroes with the villains in one wonderful character.

Let's start with Samuel L. Jackson in Unbreakable.  He was a comics heroes buff who helped Bruce Willis' character discover his powers. He was also the archenemy of Bruce Willis and a killer of many innocent people.

I also like the ones that are a bit off their rocker, like Betty White in Lake Placid. Hey, she was only trying to save those helpless creatures! So what if a few people in a hick town got killed along the way.

Oh, I’ve thought of one more! I’m not sure how much you’d call her a hero, but she did save a writer, of all people, from a horrible car wreck during a snow storm, even if she did torture him throughout the rest of the movie. You know who I’m talking about... Kathy Bates in Stephen King's Misery!

Thanks everyone for reading this post. And a BIG thanks to all the hosts, because I love these types of hops - that depict the twistedly evil.

(Yes, I'm still Christian who enjoys a bit of the twisted and diabolical. It helps me understand people for writing characters!)

  8. Nice choice with Unbreakable.

Kathy Bates did a great job playing that obsessed fan.

Thanks for participating in the blogfest! ^_^

  10. Interesting choices. Love Misery. Also nice job slipping Anticipation of the Penitent in the mix. Nice maneuver in promotion, and you totally should have been cheeky and put it first. :)

  11. You picked some real creepy ones. Well done. And it is really effective when someone handsome and charming like Antonio Banderas plays a creepy psycho.

  12. I think I want to see The Skin I Live In. I totally believe he could be a chilling bad guy. I also need to see Lake Placid. I love Betty White and would love to see her in a villainous role!

  13. Hannibal 'the cannibal' is a classic villain. So was Sam Jackson's character in Unbreakable.

    Very cool picks! :)

  14. I keep meaning to watch Unbreakable, but have not so far managed it. I have heard several people recommend it. Misery, however, is one of those movies I just can't watch ... it freaks me out :).

You have some very interesting choices for the abberant characters. I rewatched Silence of the Lambs the other day - still a great film.

    1. Okay, you couldn't watch Misery, but you could watch Silence of the Lambs?? :) I'd love to hear what you think about Ed Gein. I do like Unbreakable - one of those you can really get into despite the everydayishness of the actors. Sort of like Signs.

  18. Here a little late for the Aberration blog hop :) Definitely agree re: Lecter, but also Buffalo Bill from that movie is super creepy and I considered mentioning him too.

    1. Yes, the Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs was creepy, but seems like not much beats real life.

  19. Brave of you doing two major hops at once. For Aberration I only know Lecter but I also watched programmes that soke of Ed Gein's crimes which were just awful. Antonio looks sinister in that clip though. And your character Thomas sounds like truly sinister man. Son of Satan? Did he even stand a chance?

Now for H&V. Samuel L. Jackson's character in Unbreakable was both a wicked villain and a heartbreaking character. Such a wonderful contrast. Misery? What can I say except as a writer I'd never want to meet this insane fan. Save me, no thanks everyone dies some day. Betty White's character was hilarious despite the awful things she did. Great list on both sides Nancy.

    1. That's the question...does he have a chance?

Yes, that writer was bound to die the day she saved him... had he not fought so hard against her. :) Gotta love Stephen King.
